Katherine Gottschalk

Katherine K. Gottschalk is the Walter C. Teagle Director of First-Year Writing Seminars and a senior lecturer in the Department of English. She has taught at Cornell for almost thirty years. A recipient of the Clark Award for Distinguished Teaching, Katy offers freshman and upper-level courses in the study and writing of memoir. Her current research interests include Cornell's holdings of letters written by fans to E. B. White about his Elements of Style and the history of a famous Cornell first-year writing seminar, Writing from Experience.

Katy holds a PhD from the University of Chicago. Her publications include The Elements of Teaching Writing: A Resource for Instructors in All Disciplines (Bedford, 2004), co-authored with her colleague Keith Hjortshoj, director of Cornell’s Writing in the Majors program.
