Katherine Gottschalk

Katherine K. Gottschalk is the Walter C. Teagle Director of First-Year Writing Seminars and a senior lecturer in the Department of English. She has taught at Cornell for almost thirty years. A recipient of the Clark Award for Distinguished Teaching, Katy offers freshman and upper-level courses in the study and writing of memoir. Her current research interests include Cornell's holdings of letters written by fans to E. B White about his Elements of Style and the history of a famous Cornell first-year writing seminar, Writing from Experience.

Katy holds a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago. Her publications include The Elements of Teaching Writing: A Resource for Instructors in All Disciplines (Bedford, 2004), co-authored with her colleague Keith Hjortshoj, director of Cornell’s Writing in the Majors program.
