Dear Cornellians and CAU Fans and Friends, Like Odysseus, Cornellians are eager travelers, no matter how far from Ithaca we roam. But unlike ancient mariners struggling in far-off lands with temperamental deities, CAU travelers are cared for by kinder folk. Talented Cornell faculty members shape and guide our intellectual itineraries. Experienced CAU quarter-masters keep careful watch over program details, logistics, and group needs. And we add benefits Odysseus could never imagine, such as emergency medical-evacuation coverage, the ability to deploy Cornell's resources and contacts in a pinch, and a determination not to "nickel and dime" you. Better yet, when you call CAU, a real, live person will answer the phone! We like to think that if Odysseus were planning a trip today, he (and Penelope) would sign up with CAU. CAU off-campus programs vary in size: from twenty-five to thirty-five people in most cases; higher for some weekend seminars and study cruises. Typically, three-quarters of participants are couples, one-quarter singles. Ages vary, but most CAU travelers graduated from Cornell or other schools between the late 1940s and the late 1970s. What doesn't vary is the warmth, friendliness, and intelligence of the groups and the variety and quality of our destinations and learning experiences. Perhaps that's why 50 to 80 percent of the participants in any given program have traveled with CAU before. The only tough part of CAU travel is deciding which program to attend. If you need advice, please call CAU at 607.255.6260, fax us at 607.254.4482, or e-mail us at cauinfo@cornell.edu. We hope you'll join us soon. With warmest regards from Ithaca, |
