Travelers' Tales: A Writing Workshop

CAU On-campus Summer Programs

Week 1: July 12-18, 2009

Travelers' Tales: A Writing Workshop

The journey--wandering through what Bunyan so evocatively called "the wilderness of this world"--is one of the oldest, most persistent, and richest themes of literature. It embodies our deepest and most intimate existential questions: where to go, what to do, who to be. Exploratory and personal, essay writing seems precisely made for considering this wilderness in which we find ourselves and observing ourselves moving through it. All essays are, in that sense, travelers' tales, reports of individual passages through outer and inner landscapes. Whether your tale runs to the exotic or the homely, whether you're a veteran essayist or a beginner, you'll find a welcome place in this class with the steady guiding hand of master teacher, essayist, and fiction writer Lydia Fakundiny, one of CAU's favorite instructors.
