Landscape Design Workshop

CAU On-campus Summer Programs

Week 2: July 19-25, 2009

Landscape Design Workshop

Whether it's a tiny urban corner or an unconstructed acre, you can transform your patch of earth into an environment that delights the senses or soothes the soul. Whatever your landscape vision, Dan Krall, talented and extremely lively professor of landscape architecture in Cornell's first-class Landscape Architecture Program in Kennedy Hall, will help you bring it to life. He'll guide us as we frame and answer our most pressing questions about sight lines and hardscapes and about the plants, bushes, and trees that give shape, texture, color, and flow to our own home gardens. Through lectures, a field trip to the Cornell Plantations, and analyses of select gardens that we will visit in and around Ithaca, we will explore the problems, opportunities, and solutions presented by each particular challenge. Dan's mission is for each one of us to leave the class with a better understanding of the landscape design process and the basic concepts of good landscape architecture as well as with the tools necessary to continue to develop our own residential sites. No prior experience is necessary, but Dan will send a preparatory packet with instructions for providing information about, and photos of, the properties for use during the class. Field trip fees: $25.
