Wilderness Adventures for Women
CAU On-campus Summer Programs
Week 2: July 19-25, 2009
Wilderness Adventures for Women
This wilderness skills course, designed for women, combines the worlds of outdoor adventure and challenge-course activities with an introduction to the renewing world of yoga. Using Cornell's Hoffman Challenge Course, one of the nation's top facilities for teambuilding and professional development, we'll begin with on-the-ground introductory activities, progress to low challenge-course events, and culminate with high elements, for which we'll outfit you with a helmet, a harness, ropes, and expert guidance. We'll also learn the deep-relaxation techniques, postures, and concepts, and the spiritual renewal that yoga lovers so appreciate. Our leader, Amy Kohut, director of the Team and Leadership Center for Cornell Outdoor Education, has designed and led adventure and challenge courses for more than twenty-five years. She founded Outward Bound's "Connecting with Courage" program for women. Co-leader Carol James has been a certified yoga teacher for fourteen years, a leader of adventure and challenge courses for more than twenty years, and a consultant to Project Adventure, a national training organization. No experience needed. Equipment and facilities fee: $150.
