Week 2: July 19-25, 2009
The Sailing Clinic
Ahoy there, mates! Your conquest of Cayuga Lake will be led by Cornell Sailing Program Manager Pat Crowley and Director Fred DeBruyn '76 using the program's facility just down the hill from campus on the east shore of Cayuga Lake. In this course, geared for beginners, Pat and Fred will introduce you to different sizes and types of sailboats, show you how to skipper and crew, and teach you the finer points of safe, smooth sailing, including elementary aero- and hydrodynamics, tacking, jibing, water safety, and right-of-way and docking techniques, as well as sailing terminology. No sailing experience is needed, but you must be able to swim. Equipment and facilities fee: $100.
