CAU On-campus Summer Programs
Week 4: August 2-8, 2009
Video Verite: A Digital Studio Workshop
Do you long to make compelling films for your own pleasure and for your family and friends? If your closet shelf is loaded with digital or analog videotapes awaiting your editorial expertise or if you are fairly new to the art form, do join this workshop led by gifted filmmaker and teacher Marilyn Rivchin, senior lecturer in the Department of Theatre, Film and Dance. Our guru and guide through the mysteries of video filmmaking and editing, Marilyn will apply her keen eye to your efforts as you create a short film from one or more of your tapes, learning editing skills and tricks of the trade and sharing and discussing your production every step of the way. Using the top-notch facilities of the Schwartz Center, you'll learn Final Cut Pro editing and make the acquaintance of such other programs as Photoshop, Soundtrack Pro for audio creation and editing, and iDVD and DVD Studio Pro for burning your own discs. You need not have experience with these Mac-based systems, but you must be comfortable with computer use. You may bring your own digital video camera or use one supplied by the department. Still, we emphasize that the focus of the class will be on editing digital film you've already shot. You can also learn how to set up your own system at home. Whether you arrive as a relative novice or with substantial video filmmaking experience, we're sure you'll enjoy this week. Equipment and facilities fee: $75.
