  • Judicial officers
  • Technology administrators

  • Publications directors
  • Public relations administrators
  • And anyone else who is involved in developing, implementing, and enforcing technology policies in higher education.

Dear Colleague,

You are cordially invited to join us at Cornell University this summer for the thirteenth annual Institute for Computer Policy and Law, an event that has become, we believe, the nation's premier forum for discussing and learning about technology policies in higher education. Once again, we have invited a group of nationally recognized technologists and legal experts to help us examine how the widespread use of the Internet is impacting our campus policies, procedures, and judicial systems.

The program will be led by co-directors Steven L. Worona, the Director of Policy and Networking for EDUCAUSE, and Tracy B. Mitrano, Director of IT Policy for Cornell University's Office of Information Technologies, both highly regarded leaders in their respective fields.

Through lectures, case studies, and panel discussions, they will join with other experts and participants to explore topics including:

  • Recent developments in computer policy, law, and the Internet
  • An introduction to the laws that apply in cyberspace
  • Network security policies
  • E-discovery
  • Policy options for social networking sites such as MySpace and Facebook
  • The laws and politics of digital copyright
  • Recent and pending Federal legislation
  • The recent RIAA crackdown on file-sharing

There also will be plenty of time, both structured and unstructured, to ask questions of the assembled experts. And, we're repeating the Cayuga Lake dinner cruise, offering the chance for informal mingling under a beautiful summer sunset.

Whether you're a first-time participant or returning for your thirteenth Ithaca summer, we're sure you'll find the Institute for Computer Policy and Law intellectually stimulating and professionally rewarding.

Cordially,

Charles W. Jermy, Jr. Associate Dean School of Continuing Education and Summer Sessions
