Human Resource Management Program

September 3-December 3, 2008

The program is designed for:

  • HR professionals desiring a review course in preparation for the HRCI exams.
  • HR professionals and specialists desiring a broader understanding of human resource management.
  • HR practitioners seeking professional development to enhance or advance their career.
  • Experienced managers who are new to the HR field.
  • Mid-level managers seeking career change or promotion.

The Human Resource Management Program is being offered for the thirteenth time by Cornell University's School of Continuing Education and Summer Sessions, in collaboration with Cornell's Office of Human Resources and the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). This twelve-week program is designed for human resource specialists and managers, and uses "The SHRM® Learning System," materials developed and produced by SHRM, a nationally recognized, professional-development organization.

The program is open to both Cornell University employees and the area public. It provides participants with an overview of key areas in human resource management. It also assists in preparing them for the national examinations of the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI) for certification as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR).

The program combines classroom sessions and an online self-study format. The classroom portion of the program will be held from 1:00 or 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on September 3, 9, 17, and 24; October 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29; November 5, 12, and 19; and December 3 at the Thornwood Training Room in Ithaca, New York. The self-study portion of the program includes online testing, e-flashcards, application exercises, and discussion groups. Participants are required to have Internet access and an e-mail account.
