Veterinary Conference
Overview
Welcome
We are delighted to invite you to join us as we present the very best in contemporary veterinary continuing education. Cornell offered the first continuing education program for veterinary medicine in the country, and we intend to honor that heritage with a program that combines both excellence and relevance to meet the needs of today's practicing veterinarians and veterinary technicians. And, we do this in the unsurpassed setting of a beautiful Ithaca summer!
For Veterinarians
Your Monday and Tuesday will be devoted to a choice of sessions related to specific themes including oncology, cardiology, canine infectious diseases, pain management, and dermatology for small animals; and topics encompassing both dairy production issues and individual animal considerations for those in large animal practices. Both days there will be options that involve wet laboratories or other highly interactive exercises.
For Veterinary Technicians
Notice: The Veterinary Technician Program has been canceled. If you have any questions, please contact our office.
Keynote: One World One Health
The keynote speaker for Monday evening's dinner will come to us from the world-famous Bronx Zoo in New York City. Dr. Robert Cook is the Chief Veterinarian of Wildlife Health Sciences and the Vice President for the Wildlife Conservation Society. The title of his presentation, One World One Health, emphasizes the stunning relationships that exist among animal species worldwide, and the ecological environments in which they live and reproduce. Dr. Cook's extensive international field-experience, as well as his comprehensive knowledge of the extraordinary collection at the Bronx Zoo, will captivate you. He will also provide an inspiring perspective on the interfaces between domestic animals, wild animals, and human populations.
Preconference Activities
It is also my great pleasure to invite you and your family to participate in our optional preconference family-program activities on Sunday. The scope of summer recreational opportunities in Ithaca and the surrounding community is unlimited. In addition, Professor Emeritus Howard Evans will host a special guided tour of the Museum of the Earth that afternoon. A Finger Lakes wine tour and a dinner cruise on the MV Manhattan are also available. We expect to add family activities to our roster in the next several weeks, so be sure to visit the College Web site for details.
I personally look forward to welcoming you and your colleagues to Ithaca this June.
With warm wishes,
Donald F. Smith, D.V.M.
Austin O. Hooey Dean of Veterinary Medicine
