Academic support: workshops and advising

Our program is fast-paced and rigorous, so it's important to keep up with your coursework. Even the best students often find they're stretched to their limits here.

To help you meet the challenge, we offer plenty of workshops, tutors, and advising services.

Workshops

To help you get into the swing of classes and polish your academic skills, be sure to attend the College Success workshops offered throughout the summer on Monday evenings at 7:00 p.m. in the Carol Tatkon Center, starting with the intensive "College Success Crash Course on Sunday, June 22."

If you're taking a math course, you will want to take advantage of math tutors available Sunday-Thursday nights from 7 to 9:30 p.m. in the Carol Tatkon Center. If you are enrolled in a writing course, or if you need help with writing a paper for any class, there is a drop-in writing workshop where you can get individualized help, including tips for writing an outstanding paper (the summer writing workshop will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays in the Carol Tatkon Center).

Don't be bashful about making use of these services. The skills and shortcuts taught will be very helpful as you do college work. Do not fall behind in your assignments; you will make yourself miserable and it's not easy to catch up. You have only several weeks to accomplish a great deal of work.

Advising

The Summer College staff is available for advising, so if you are having any difficulties or any concerns about your courses, be sure to come to the Summer College Academic Advising Office in B20 Day Hall right away. Abby Eller, the director, or Janna Bugliosi, assistant director, has office hours from 9:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays, and from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. on Fridays. Call for an appointment at other times (telephone 607.255.6203).

We're happy to meet with you to discuss any problems you may encounter during your stay at Cornell. We can't help you unless you come in and see us. Drop in to talk about your courses, managing your time, or just to let us know how you're doing.
