Services for students

Review the list of (optional) Opening Day services

Below are some of the things to do on Opening Day at the Robert Purcell Community Center. All services are optional.

  1. Rent a refrigerator

If you rent a refrigerator in advance, please mail the form directly to the address on the form.

  2. Set-up a bank account through M&T Bank

You're encouraged to submit your forms two weeks before your day of arrival, so the banking packet can be mailed to you. Otherwise, it can be picked up at the M&T campus branch in Willard Straight Hall after you arrive, starting Monday (bank representatives will not be available on Opening Day). For security reasons, staff members will not be available. Note: Students can also use their own ATM card from home, although there may be charges. Cirrus and NYCE ATM machines are easily located around campus.

  3. Get your student health insurance questions answered

A health insurance specialist will be available on Opening Day to answer questions you might have about your student's health insurance plan.

  4. Set-up a ResNet Account

If your son or daughter will be bringing a computer, ResNet will give him/her access to Cornell's computer resources and the Internet.

  5. Add money to your Laundry and Summer Bucks Accounts - when you arrive. This cannot be done before you get to campus.

At the lower service desk at Robert Purcell you can add money to your student's Cornell ID to do laundry or purchase water and snacks in many vending machines.

  6. Sign up for a Fitness Center membership

Acceptable payment methods are by check and credit card; not cash. Full membership costs $65 and fitness classes only cost $60.*

  7. Purchase a bus pass

The bus pass allows students to ride on campus, to Ithaca Mall, or downtown Ithaca. The pass costs $40 for the duration of your student's stay with us and there are no refunds. Without a pass, one-way bus trips cost $1.50 to any of these locations. Acceptable payment methods include cash, credit card (Visa or Mastercard), or U.S. check in U.S. funds made payable to "Cornell University." If your student would like to purchase a pass after Opening Day, s/he can see Beth in B20 Day Hall, starting Monday, June 22.*

*These services will not be available on Sunday, July 12.

On Saturday, June 20, The Cornell Store will be open from 12:00 - 5:00 p.m. for your shopping convenience. The store will not be open on Sunday, July 12.
