The Cornell–China Connection
Cornell University was founded in 1865 with the unique and ambitious goal of becoming an institution of higher education “where any person can find instruction in any study.”
As a result of this decision, the University has been breaking new intellectual ground ever since. Cornell’s first president, Andrew Dickson White, himself a scholar and world traveler, welcomed international students and professors from the beginning, and Chinese students were among those who chose to enroll.
For more than a century, there has been a particularly robust and mutually beneficial Cornell–China connection. That tradition flourishes today. In fact, some 600 Chinese professors, students, research scholars, exchange visitors, and family members are currently at the University. In addition, Cornell recently established an undergraduate major in China and Asia–Pacific Studies that features rigorous language acquisition, work and study in Washington, D.C. on topics related to China, and a semester at Peking University.
In 2005, in keeping with the Cornell spirit of educational innovation, Cornell initiated the very first program of its kind involving the enrollment of Chinese high school students at an American university: The China–Cornell College Preparatory Program (CCCPP), a part of Cornell’s award-winning Summer College program.
Now, Cornell University is honored to invite you to participate in this ground-breaking program.
