Student Quotes

Pengfei Ding

“A lot of Chinese students dream of studying at a top university in the world. The CCCPP is definitely one of the best choices for doing that. Cornell has not only the most beautiful campus, the best cafeteria, and the most advanced teaching facilities of all the universities, but also the most available professors, the perfect academic atmosphere, and great opportunities to reach across the world. The most important thing is that this program will absolutely help you to get into the best universities in the world. You cannot miss it.”

Yunyun Cai

“At Cornell Summer College I grew faster than ever before. Reason #1: Everyone at Cornell is super caring. Reason #2: Summer College at the ‘Hottest Ivy' is challenging. Reason #3: At a place of such great diversity, every day I learned a lot through making choices. It was tough, but it was worthwhile. I encourage others to apply to CCCPP to learn more about American culture, to study in the United States, and to improve their English. If you come you will definitely learn something. The environment is so inspiring.”

WeiQin Dong

"I gained so much more than I expected by attending CCCPP. I gained knowledge from classes and met a lot of peers and faculty. I also learned to balance activities and study, and to adapt to a new country. It really made me grow up. It was the best of times, with so many brilliant people to meet and incredible experiences to have; and it was the most challenging of times, with lots of work to finish and tons of problems to tackle. Yet, when I look back on it, it was a wonderful summer; it was CCCPP!"

Yao Yuan

Yao Yuan participated in CCCPP in 2006 and 2007, and in 2008 he returned to the Cornell campus as a member of the class of '12. Following is his reflection on his odyssey, offered as a beacon to those who might follow.

As our bus slides away from Cornell's campus in August 2007, morning sunshine reflects from the western hillsides and casts its glory on the road sign: Ithaca.

Ithaca is gorgeous: joyful brooks cascade down hillsides; hundred-year-old chimes strike the alma mater every noon. It's just like the distant echoing of legendary Odysseus's home Ithaca. Still, we are to leave, and we know that the odyssey we choose is far more than this flight across the Pacific.

Ever since that time, we have been on our odyssey of U.S. college applications. We hustled the 30-mile trip in the metro from home to school; we flew between the SAT test centers in Hong Kong and Singapore; we ran from A to Z in the Barrons word list, from one deadline to the next. In this odyssey, we never knew how rough this road would still be; what we did know was that at the end of the road is Ithaca, our home, where our lifetime dream lies.

And now, this is the road right in front of you. You seem to know a bit about the road, or sometimes you seem to know nothing. So you read on, and find our footprints; in these footprints are our stories.

We know at some point in this trip, you will encounter the giant Cyclops and be scared, and we will give you the wedge to cut his eye. We know at some appealing island, there will be Siren, telling you in her alluring voice, “I know some shortcut. Come, come! Give me gold, and I will take you there with my boat.” We will stop your ears with wax and hold you back when you are tempted. We will tell the stories of our own odyssey and encourage you to use your Odysseus's wit, study and research by yourself, so that you can handle with ease the challenges you encounter.

We are here in Ithaca and watch you strive. We will be your caring Aeolus, closing all the adverse winds along your way in our bag; we are your Penelope, standing at the end, eagerly expecting you. Because your success is our success, and our success is the world's success one day.

You, who are about to begin your odyssey, welcome! We wish you bon voyage!
