I'll be studying film analysis at Cornell Summer College. I live on the Upper East Side of Manhattan and go to Riverdale Country School, where I'll be a senior next fall. I enjoy writing, watching old movies, and performing with my school's improv troupe, the Riverdale Boneshakers. I'm a big Yankees fan. My favorite book is Nine Stories, my favorite movie is "Casablanca," and my favorite obscure dead president is Chester A. Arthur. I believe myself to be a relatively interesting person with relatively interesting opinions and I hope the readers of the Cornell Summer College website will agree with this assessment. I apologize in advance if readers do not agree and I advise you to rent a copy of "PCU" from the nearest video store if you seek further entertainment. "PCU" is a classic teenage comedy made in the early '90s based on Wesleyan University and the film would probably provide more insight into the college experience than I could ever hope to provide (due to the fact that I've not yet been to college).

Well, I've been here at Cornell Summer College for about five days so far and I can honestly say I'm having a pretty good time here. The endless rain and the heavy workload have done little to contribute to my social life; I get along really well with my roommate and there are some pretty decent people here. What surprised me most about Cornell was probably its diversity; coming from the Upper East Side of Manhattan, I live in a very tiny, very insular environment, and summer college could not be more different. There's something like 800 kids here! Hopefully my workload doesn't catch up with me over the course of the next two and a half weeks. . .

A List of Things You Will Miss About the Cornell Summer College Program After The Final Midnight Dorm Check-in Rolls Around is as follows:
- Playing pool at Purcell with the boys against the girls, and the girls kicking the boys' butts
- Eating chicken fingers with honey mustard sauce at Bear Necessities (and not being able to get that song from "The Jungle Book" out of your head for the next few hours)
- The incredibly articulate, interesting guest speakers at lectures at Goldwin Hall
- Cleaning up a hundred styrofoam cups arranged in an ornate pattern by the door of your dorm room which were put there as a prank by your friends in Donlon Hall
- Movie nights at the Straight (and not admitting that you were incredibly freaked out by the shower scene in "Psycho")
- The amazing friends that you made (save for the aforementioned pranksters from Donlon Hall) from various different exotic locales, from places as far away as France and as foreign to a New York City girl as Austin, Texas
- The brilliant TAs and professors who patiently answered every question you had about when your essay on "Fight Club" was due
- Looking over the Thurston Ave. Bridge every morning on your way to class to see what naughty rock designs have been made in the gorges that morning
- Staying up till 2:00 a.m. perfecting the final draft of your paper and waking up too late in the morning to catch a bite of one of those amazing croissants at Appel (well, okay, maybe you won't miss that that much)
- The coffee chocolate chip ice cream at Appel that the genius kitchen staff often serves for lunch and dinner. Coldstone Creamery ain't got nothing on the Cornell dairy.

Well, it's been two weeks since I left Cornell and I have to say, I still miss it. I spent the past two weeks doing a writing program at Kenyon College, a small liberal arts school in Ohio, and while I had a fantastic time there, in many ways it did not measure up to the Cornell Summer College experience (mainly in the area of food services . . . I still miss that coffee chocolate chip ice cream!). At Cornell I made a bunch of friends from all corners of the country (one of whom I'm actually seeing tomorrow in the city) and my film analysis class was extremely informative. I got to sit in a classroom with 3 brilliant teachers and 25 other kids who loved movies as much as I did, and that's an experience that I'm looking forward to once I finally get into college. All in all I had an amazing time at Summer College and I'm still not totally through with the "missing Cornell" process . . . I would definitely recommend the program to any rising junior or senior who's interested in getting a sense of what the college experience is like or anybody who's just interested in spending an awesome three weeks in an awesome town with lots of awesome people. (Wow, you'd think spending three weeks at an Ivy League university would help strengthen my vocabulary. . .
