A world of opportunity
One of the best things about coming to Summer College is being a Cornell student with access to all of the amazing resources of this world-renowned institution:
- Cornell University Library, among the best in the country, encompasses twenty unit libraries with rich collections of books, journals, video, sound recordings, visual images, maps and other materials, and a rapidly expanding collection of digital resources. It even boasts several popular cafés where faculty and students come together. (For more information, see "Cornell University Library.")
- Cornell Information Technology will help you navigate the universitys high-speed computer networks, campus computer labs, and cutting-edge IT services. (For more information, see "Information technology.")
- Cornells student services offer some of the more comprehensive programs anywhere. In addition to Gannett Health Services and the Cornell Police, you can connect with offices including Student Disability Services, Cornell United Religious Work, the International Students and Scholars Office, the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Resource Center, the Office of Minority Educational Affairs, and the Public Service Center.
- The famous art, birds, brains, and other collections at Cornell include the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art, which offers great art and great views, the world-class Laboratory of Ornithology, and the fabled Brain Collection.
- The Cornell Plantations is 4,000 magnificent acres of rose gardens, lovely woodland trails, waterfalls, gorges, and ponds. Its a great place to picnic, jog, nap, or just get away from it all.
- The Space Sciences Building is Cornells headquarters for the current Mars mission and home to more than 100,000 images taken of planets by NASA spacecraft.
- The Fuertes Observatory is the perfect place for star and planet gazing on a clear Friday night.
- The Cornell Store is your source for Cornell clothing and souvenirs, course books, DVDs, computer gear, dorm supplies, and snacks.
- Willard Straight, a distinctive Gothic building with cathedral ceilings, marble staircases, and oak paneling, is a central gathering place for students from all across campus.
- Duffield Hall, Cornells new nanotechnology building, is just one of the many sophisticated research facilities you can tour.
- Sports, fitness, and outdoor education opportunities are everywhere, including facilities for baseball, basketball, tennis, swimming, golf, spinning, yoga, tae kwon do, rock climbing, you name it . . .
- A weekly summer events series features free outdoor and indoor concerts and lectures by acclaimed speakers.
