Fire safety
Access to rooms, corridors, stairwells, and entryways must be kept clear of obstruction. Even temporary use of such space for storage is prohibited; we may find it necessary to impound objects found in these locations.
Whenever a fire alarm goes off in a building, everyone is required to leave the building. Tampering with fire alarms, smoke detectors, extinguishers, or sprinkler systems automatically results in a response from the Ithaca Fire Department and is a violation of state and local laws.
Sprinkler pipes are not meant to sustain any weight, so don't hang plants or lamps from them; the pipes may come down. Misuse of equipment can result in costly repairs, water damage, an unnecessary response from the fire department, and disciplinary action.
