The information presented below pertains to the 2008 Summer College program. We're currently putting the finishing touches on our 2009 program and we'll update the Web site with this information by mid-December. Staying in touch

Okay, where's the television?

You have hundreds of fascinating people to share your thoughts with, more than six million books in the Cornell libraries, and only a few weeks to check it all out. So of course you'll be watching TV—NOT! There are a limited number of televisions located in the large public areas providing a community experience.

Mail

Summer College students are a popular lot. Please give your correspondents the following mailing address if they expect to write to you immediately:

Students living in Mary Donlon Hall, Jameson Hall, or Ujamaa:

[Student's name]
Cornell University
Summer College Programs
Robert Purcell Community Center
[Student's room number and building]
Ithaca, NY 14853-5111

Students living in Risley Hall:

[Student's name]
Cornell University
Summer College Programs
Risley Residential College
[Student's room number and building]
Ithaca, NY 14853

After you arrive on campus and find out your room number, tell your correspondents to add the building and room number to your address; mail addressed with a room number will arrive more quickly.

If you need to mail some of your belongings to Summer College before your arrival, please send them directly to the Robert Purcell Community Center on North Campus. Clearly mark your packages with "Summer College" so the staff will know to hold the packages. Try to time the arrival of the packages with your own arrival to avoid confusion.

Please do not have your mail or packages sent to the Summer College Academic Advising office at B20 Day Hall. It will slow down the delivery of your mail.

Telephone service

It is sometimes hard to catch students in their rooms. Having an answering machine will ensure that calls are received. Cornell has a voicemail system called Audix. You will have the opportunity to sign up for this service when you arrive. A sign-up form will be waiting for you in your room. Only one subscription to Audix is available per telephone number.

If you and your roommate decide to share the cost of Audix, one of you will be the "Responsible Student" and will complete the form and make the payment. The cost will be $7 for a six-week program and $4.50 for all one-, three-, and four-week programs.

The telephone in your room is a great convenience, and there is no charge for making campus or local calls. For long-distance calls you must call collect, use a charge card, or purchase a prepaid phone card. To reach other phones on campus (numbers beginning with 253, 254, or 255), dial 3-xxxx, 4-xxxx, or 5-xxxx. For other local numbers, dial 9-xxx-xxxx. To make long-distance calls, dial 9-0-(area code)-xxx-xxxx. To place a call using a calling card on a Touch-Tone phone, dial 9-0-(area code)-xxx-xxxx- TONE-(calling-card number). The long-distance operator will help you make a collect call or a third-party-billing call.
