Residential staff

Spencer Bennett

Hi everybody! My name is Spencer Bennett, and I'm the judicial officer for Cornell Summer College. I come from the University of South Carolina, where I'm studying higher education and student affairs. My work there with students in transition, first-year programs, and community standards has prepared me for my role as the Cornell Summer College judicial officer.

I attend school in Columbia, South Carolina, but have lived in Charleston and grew up in Farmington, Connecticut. I enjoy spending time with friends and family, reading anything by Kurt Vonnegut, kayaking, and eating delicious food.

I'm looking forward to working with the Summer College students and staff. Helping to educate the students and motivating them to make the most of their experience at Cornell are my main goals for the summer, as well as winning first place at the much-anticipated Summer College Karaoke Competition.

Brandi Douglas

Brandi is a social justice education master's degree candidate at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. She is originally from Stillwater, Oklahoma. She received a B.A. in English from Oklahoma State University.

In her spare time, Brandi enjoys listening to the radio, dancing, spending time with others, and karaoke. She also has written, read, and published her own poetry. She is excited to be at Cornell this summer, working with a diverse group of high school students.

Callie Frieler

Hello everyone! Welcome to Cornell! My name is Callie Frieler, and I am currently a head resident in Donlon Hall for Cornell's Summer College Program. This is my first visit to New York, and I am very excited to be here! Originally from central Minnesota, I am currently working on my master's degree in student affairs administration at the University of Wisconsin, La Crosse.

I love being surrounded by friends and family. I am always up for a good scoop of ice cream and am obsessed with traveling. In just the past few years I have visited Hong Kong, Vietnam, Belize, Italy, and a number of other countries! It is a goal of mine to visit all seven continents by the time I am thirty.

I am looking forward to getting to know everyone, exploring, and experiencing the New York culture this summer. If you know of any must-see places to visit, let me know!!

Nick Franco

Nick Franco comes from Stockton, California, a sizeable city about 45 minutes south of Sacramento. After attending Catholic schools for many years, he ventured into the realm of public education at California State University, Sacramento (CSUS). Five years later, he graduated with two bachelor of arts degrees - one in social work and the other in women's studies. During those five years, he worked on campus in the residence halls as a desk assistant and resident advisor.

Fascinated by feminist theory, Nick applied and was accepted to the graduate program in women's studies at San Diego State University (SDSU). During his first year of graduate school, he worked in one of the apartment-style residence halls on campus as a front desk manager for the Residential Education Office. He hopes to author a LGBTQI children's book as his thesis project.

While not in the classroom or a residence hall, Nick likes to read at the beach, exercise at the gym, eat anywhere off campus, and dance alone in his apartment. He is excited to explore the "gorges" Ithaca area and bring his California experiences to Cornell's campus life!

Noel Habashy

Hailing from the magnificently beautiful nation of Canada, Noel Habashy grew up near Toronto, Ontario. He attended college first in Toronto and then at Houghton College in western New York State. After graduating in 2003 with a degree in business, he worked for three years in higher education admissions—which provided him with the opportunity to travel around the world spreading the good news of his fine institution.

After visiting a few dozen countries across the globe for work and volunteering with some development organizations in the process, Noel spent a year teaching English to seventh and eighth grade students in Honduras. In 2008 he returned to the United States and began a master's degree program in college student affairs and comparative and international education (he was trying to find the longest combination of words possible) at Pennsylvania State University.

Noel loves working with students! He aspires to help high school and college students be all they can be (joining the army is not necessarily required to do that). Other things that Noel likes include trying to speak Spanish, eating all sorts of food, visiting new and random places, playing just about any sport (though he's likely horrible at it), hanging out with friends, curling up with a good Sudoku puzzle, and making the world a better place (though it's yet to be determined if he will succeed at that!).

Brian Mateo

Hello, my name is Brian Mateo, and I am the program coordinator for Summer College. I am a master's degree candidate in the College Student Affairs program at the Pennsylvania State University (Penn State), where I earned my undergraduate degree in biobehavioral health. I am excited to work with all of you and provide programs that are both educational and fun.

I love meeting new people and making them smile. My friends would describe me as a caring person, someone who would always be there when they need me. Hopefully I will have the opportunity to be there for all of you in any capacity. Feel free to approach me with any ideas about things you would like to see happen this summer!

Amy Pollock

Hello everyone, and welcome to Summer College! My name is Amy Pollock, and I am the residential program director. I've been busy preparing for your arrival all year. I am a full-time Cornell employee and just finished my first year as a residence hall director. Prior to arriving to Cornell I was a graduate student at the University at Albany and received a master's degree in educational administration and policy studies. In other words, I love working with students!

Originally from central New York, I have lived across the state as well as in Boston. I love running and biking, both excellent ways to explore the Ithaca area. In my free time I also enjoy cooking and reading.

I am excited to get to know you all and hope we have a great summer together! Please feel free to stop by my office or say hello when you see me.
