Summer Times

2008 online editions

we make all summer times editions available in adobe's pdf format.

Attention, writers, cartoonists, photographers! Do you have poetry, short (very short!) stories, essays, or artwork that you've already published—in your school paper or elsewhere—or longed to see in print?

If so, send some of your work to the Cornell Summer Times! We'll try and choose some of the best to include in the first issue of what will be your own Summer College newspaper. We also produce a literary supplement, for which we'll need prose, poetry, artwork, and literary criticism. If you have something you'd like to see in print (up to five hundred words), send it to us at the Summer College Academic Advising Office, B20 Day Hall, Ithaca, NY 14853-2801.

Everyone will be turning to the weekly Cornell Summer Times to find out what's up on campus, from intramurals to movies. You don't have to be on your school paper—or even be thinking of a career in journalism—to be a part of it.

The Cornell Summer Times is staffed by Summer College students who work with a professional newspaper editor several afternoons a week to plan and assign each week's stories. What's in the paper depends on what you contribute, and may include features, editorials, sports coverage, and reviews of music, theatre, and film.

The Summer Times advisor is Jill Loop. Jill is the former managing editor at the weekly Ithaca Times, where she directed all editing, layout and design; and covered the county government beat. In addition, she previously served as an advisor to the editors of a local high school newspaper. Jill graduated from Point Park College with a degree in journalism and is a member of the New York Press Association and the Society of Professional Journalists. Currently, Jill is a certified elementary teacher and is completing her master's degree at Elmira College.
