Reading Rome, Writing Rome:
Creative Writing Workshop in Italy 2008

May 22-June 14, 2008

Enrollment

To enroll in the program, students must first contact either instructor—Professor Stephanie Vaughn or Michael Koch—to request an estimated expense sheet and to discuss the courses they wish to take. Permission of the instructor is required for admission to upper-division (300-level and above) courses. Permission of the program director, Professor Vaughn, or the program coordinator, Michael Koch, is required in order to enroll in courses and register for the program.

After discussing courses with the appropriate instructor and receiving permission to enroll, students must enroll in courses and register for the program in B20 Day Hall. At the time of enrollment in B20 Day Hall, students must make nonrefundable deposits for the program. (Financial-aid students will receive permission, upon request, to make smaller deposits.)

All students must register for a total of two courses and five credits. One course will be an English (creative writing workshop) course, taken for either three credits or four credits. Additionally, students must register for a second one-credit or two-credit Independent Study course.

Note that, in Rome, courses sometimes meet together for site visits and other short trips.

The Course Enrollment Form (Adobe PDF), downloadable here, is also available in B20 Day Hall.

Students must meet two separate double-payment deadlines in order to reserve and then hold their place in the program and in the Cornell Rome apartments. Payments must be made in two different buildings on the Cornell campus.

Deadlines for Registration and Payment

Note that the office sites are different for housing, depending on whether you are paying in person or by mail. You may pay well ahead of the following deadlines:

Deposit: February 14 (Thursday)

(Financial-aid students will sign a bursar agreement instead of making a housing deposit.)

Tuition and Program Fee: April 10 (Thursday)

(Financial-aid students will have the housing payment deferred until their funds are available.)

Mailing Addresses for Payment

(Checks must arrive by the above dates.)
