Leadership program for veterinary students
June 2 - August 9, 2008
The College of Veterinary Medicine hosts a summer research program for veterinary students who aspire to leadership positions in the academy, government, or industry. The program's tradition of excellence has drawn many applicants from veterinary colleges throughout the English-speaking world and from Europe. Although participants have diverse life experiences, culture, and academic backgrounds, all have completed at least one year of professional study and are recognized as possessing the motivation and ability to become leaders of their profession.
Research is the foundation of the Leadership Program and the activity around which all other program events are scheduled. Participating students conduct research in state-of-the-art facilities and benefit from the unsurpassed intellectual environment of an Ivy League university. They also take part in workshops, student-directed modules, and discussions facilitated by distinguished consultants. Topics range from leadership and its attendant responsibilities to emerging infectious diseases and the discovery and marketing of therapeutic drugs. Students gain further insights from vocational counseling and field trips to federal research facilities.
Successful applicants receive fellowships that include a stipend of $4,500, in-residence housing, and other benefits.
