Enrollment and Tuition Deadlines

Enrollment and Registration

To enroll in the program, students must first contact one of the professors to request an estimated expense sheet and to discuss the courses they wish to take. Permission of either the program director or one of the other instructors is required to enroll in the program. Permission of the instructor is required for admission to upper-division (3000-level and above) courses. Typically, students write to the appropriate instructor to discuss courses and request a seat in particular classes and then, once the classes are decided upon, request enrollment in the program.

After discussing courses with the appropriate instructor and receiving permission to enroll, students must enroll in courses and register for the program in B20 Day Hall, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY 14853.

At the time of enrollment, students must make nonrefundable deposits for the program (see payment deadlines below). Financial-aid students will receive permission, upon request, to make smaller deposits.

The Course Enrollment Form (PDF), downloadable here, is also available in B20 Day Hall.

Space in the program is limited. Interested students should contact program faculty as soon as possible and register for the program in B20 Day Hall no later than Monday, February 16, 2009. After the first payment deadlines, Professor Taft will create a wait-list. Prospective financial-aid students must begin the registration, aid application, and airline ticket reservation processes in January 2009.

Cornell financial-aid students are eligible to apply for aid for the Rome summer program. See the financial aid page.

Tuition and Fees

Costs for the program are tuition of $970 per credit ($5,820 for six credits) and a $625 program fee, plus air travel, most meals, and books/supplies. The program will cover ground transportation costs in Rome and to nearby towns plus all admissions costs associated with program site visits and day trips.

Payment Deadlines

Students must make the following payments by the deadlines below. (They are also welcome to pay well ahead of these deadlines.)

Please note that the tuition/program fee and the housing fee are paid in different offices.

Once students receive an e-mail acceptance from one of the faculty, they must:

  2. Register for the program in B20 Day Hall no later than Monday, February 16, 2009.
  3. Make a $750 nonrefundable deposit for tuition/program fee in B20 Day Hall no later than Monday, February 16, 2009. This is payable by check to Cornell University. (Please write "Rome Writing" in the notation line on your check.)

  5. Make the final tuition/program fee payments in B20 Day Hall no later than Thursday, April 9, 2009.This payment is the remainder of the tuition ($970 per credit minus the $750 deposit) plus the $625 program fee. In other words, the final payment total for six credits for the tuition and program fee, assuming an earlier $750 deposit, is $5,695. Financial aid students who have completed their deposit payments for tuition and program fee will be able to bursar their final payments and will not have to pay cash on this.

If mailing a check, it must be sent to:

  8. Fill out the housing preference form, which will be e-mailed to you on April 9, 2009, and then attend the departure meeting in April (TBA).
