Imagining Rome: Art Studio and Creative Writing in Rome
May 21-June 19, 2009
The following information pertains to the last time this program was offered. If you would like to be notified via e-mail when new information is available, please subscribe to the Summer Session announcement list.
Housing
Housing is in shared Cornell student apartments, which are near the Cornell teaching facility in Rome as well as near many shops, bakeries, pizzerias, restaurants, cafes, and major piazzas.
All apartments are fully furnished and have complete cooking facilities (including pans, flatware, etc.) and laundry facilities. Apartments are equipped with pillows, linens, towels, and a hair dryer and are professionally cleaned before and during the term. All apartments have wireless Internet access.
Friday, May 22, is the move-in date for the apartments. (Please note that the date you leave the U.S. is the day before, Thursday, May 21, because the trans-Atlantic flight is an overnight flight.) Friday, June 19, is the move-out date. Students must vacate apartments on the morning of June 19 so that the cleaning staff may begin preparing the apartments for the next group of students.
Students who plan to remain in Rome or travel in Italy or Europe after the end of the program must also move out of the apartments on the morning of June 19. Please note that there are no provisions for leaving suitcases, paintings, or other goods in either the apartments or the Palazzo following the program.
Housing Preference Form
On or just after the final payment deadline of April 9, students will receive by e-mail a housing preference form, which must be returned immediately so that students may be assigned to particular apartments and given their Rome telephone numbers and addresses.
The housing preference form allows students to express a preference for particular housemates, if they happen to know others enrolled in the program, and for either same-sex or coed housing. The form also allows students to identify lifestyle issues that may be important to them and therefore affect their apartment assignments.
Housing Payment
The cost of housing and cleaning is based upon the Euro but paid by students in U.S. dollars. An estimate of the housing cost, based on the November 2008 exchange rate, is $1,250 for the period between May 22 and June 19, 2009. An updated estimate of the housing cost charge will be e-mailed to enrolling students just prior to the deposit deadline of February 16, 2009, but the cost will not be locked in until just before the final payment date of April 9, 2009, because the actual cost rises and falls with the exchange rate.
The student apartments in Rome are managed by the College of Art, Architecture and Planning. Their staff handles the conversion of dollars into Euros to cover the cost of the housing in Rome.
See tuition for more information about the housing payment and deadlines.
