Teaching Opportunities
The School of Continuing Education and Summer Sessions is committed to providing outstanding year-round educational opportunities for Cornell students, and welcomes faculty to assist us in this endeavor. Please consider proposing and teaching courses during the Winter Session, either on or off campus or via distance learning.
If you are interested in submitting a proposal, please send a description of the course to your chairperson or director in time for it to be reviewed and, if approved by your department, forwarded to us, preferably electronically, for consideration by the end of August at the latest.
Courses that have proven particularly successful in the past are those that:
- are regularly over-enrolled in the fall or spring.
- will not be offered the following year because of rotation or faculty leaves, or
- are outside the department this is requiring it for a major.
On-campus courses are scheduled to meet each weekday, and one or more Saturdays, for at least two and a half hours. Pre-session assignments are recommended.
Site-based/off-campus courses are designed to explore subjects, themes, or issues intrinsic to the place visited. Credit courses must be approved by the appropriate college educational policy committee and are distinguished from other Cornell courses only by virtue of being taught off campus. At least one Cornell faculty member must accompany the study group and present a full program of lectures and discussions central to the academic purpose of the course. Non-Cornell faculty members may contribute to the program.
We also invite proposals for distance learning courses and are happy to help you develop such offerings.
For on-campus information, please contact assistant director Ruby D. Brown (click here to send e-mail, 607.255.6627) or, for site-based study, specials programs manager Mary Adie (click here to send e-mail, 607.255.7259).
Also, see the Faculty Handbook to get general idea of our policies and procedures (for Winter Session-specific policies, contact associate dean Charles Jermy).
Thank you.
