Jon Parmenter

Jon Parmenter is a dual citizen of Canada and the United States who has lived his life around the formerly contested waters of the Great Lakes. Frequent movement across various kinds of borders throughout his youth ignited his abiding interests in the construction and maintenance of political boundaries, and in conceptions of geographic space among North America's indigenous populations. After completing his PhD at the University of Michigan (1999), he taught for four years at St. Lawrence University. A member of the Department of History at Cornell since 2003, his first book, The Edge of the Woods: Iroquoia, 1534-1701, was published by Michigan State University Press in 2010. His second book will undertake a comprehensive analysis of Native Americans' role in the Seven Years' (a.k.a. "French and Indian") War.
