Fred DeBruyn has been a member of the physical education staff at Cornell since 1976, with a primary focus on aquatics. A native of Milton, Massachusetts, Fred was a prep school All-America swimmer in 1972 and a varsity swimmer and water polo player at Cornell. He is an American Red Cross instructor trainer and is in charge of the (infamous) Cornell swim test.
A master scuba diving instructor, Fred runs Cornell’s scuba diving program, which he began in 1980. The program certifies more than 150 students a year. Fred has personally certified almost 2,000 Cornell students in various levels of scuba diving.
Fred has worked with CAU since 1998. He runs the sailing programs during the summer and has led CAU trips to the Galapagos, Panama, and, most recently, to Alaska.
