Enjoy a summer learning vacation with Cornell's Adult University
School of Continuing Education and Summer Sessions, March 22, 2017
With Cornell's Adult University (CAU), you can learn to take extraordinary photographs, discover what your genes can tell you, create a divine lamb tagine, or explore the benefits of positive psychology. Come to Cornell for a week this summer and dive into the smorgasbord of Summer CAU's seminars and workshops for adults in subjects ranging from gardening, wine tasting, art, and politics to science, world affairs, biking, golf, and more.
CAU's summer programs (offered weekly in 2017 from July 9 to August 5) are designed for bright and engaged people and led by superb Cornell faculty. This year those faculty include legendary government professor Isaac Kramnick, Near Eastern scholar and professor Ross Brann, Johnson Art Museum curator Nancy Green, Cornell Glee Club conductor Robert Isaacs, architecture scholar Roberta Moudry, and men's golf coach James (Matt) Baughan.
Classes meet most days until 3:30 p.m., so there's plenty of time to enjoy Ithaca's "gorgeous gorges," the Cornell Botanic Gardens, the Laboratory of Ornithology, the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art, and Cornell's Robert Trent Jones golf course. In the evenings, participants can relax at lectures and free concerts, sip espresso at an outdoor café, view the planets at Fuertes Observatory, and enjoy conversations with fellow CAUers over wine and beer in the adult lounge.
Kids and grandkids are welcome, too, in programs for youth ages three to fifteen. Families can enjoy breakfast together and then separate for the day's activities, coming back together again to share their experiences over dinner. Optional evening recreational and educational activities are also available for kids, allowing lots of flexibility for CAU families.
One participant characterized Summer CAU as "summer camp, boot camp, your first day at school, and your fiftieth class reunion all squeezed into one exciting, stimulating, nostalgic week, full of the joy of reconnecting with old places and friends and the delight of new adventures and new friends."
Travel guru and CAU participant Arthur Frommer described Summer CAU as "exhilarating" and "an eye-opening experience." "Among competing vacations," he wrote, "this was one of the great values."
