Junior Cornellians (11-12)

Morning courses are taught by Cornell students with a hands-on approach to learning. Students enroll in one course for the week.

Healthy, kid-friendly meals and snacks, afternoon electives, swimming, bowling, and field trips will keep your Junior Cornellians busy and active all day, while they make great new friends.

Options

  • Resident Junior Cornellians participate in youth activities from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and also take part in supervised evening activities between 6:30 p.m. and bedtime (counselors are available to monitor dorm floors/rooms until 11 p.m.). They reside adjacent to parents in Court/Kay Hall or with parents at the Hilton Homewood Suites. See Housing for details.
  • Commuter Junior Cornellians attend from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.


Morning Courses for Junior Cornellians

Outdoor Adventures
In this active program, you'll sample group activities on the Hoffman Challenge Course, practice rappelling on the Lindseth Climbing Wall, and participate in games on ground level, guided by instructors from Cornell Outdoor Education—who will also give tips on safety and technique. Additional fee: $140 (Limited enrollment—register now!)

Sailing
Get hands-on practice tying knots, setting sail, and navigating through water, mentored by instructors from Cornell's Department of Athletics and Physical Education. Indoor rainy-day demonstrations and outdoor fun on the lake don't require any previous experience, but you must know how to swim. Additional fee: $130 (Limited enrollment—register now!)

Architecture for Imagineers
Have fun learning basic architectural theory and principles as well as what makes a building or space functional, attractive, and accessible. You'll sketch and make models and mini-construction projects, meet students who work with "building art" from the inside out, and explore buildings and rooftops on campus that bring architectural concepts alive.

Materials Science
How do airplanes fly? What is the engineering behind a simple robot? If you are interested in how things work, this course will reveal the mechanics underlying physical phenomena from buildings to appliances to products we use every day. With resources from the Center for Materials Research, you'll conduct experiments, design simple machines and magnetized motors, build and launch bottle rockets, and gain an understanding of why materials behave the way they do.

Youth program fees

The weekly residential program fee (per youngster, per week) covers tuition, housing, seventeen meals, and all morning, afternoon, and evening activities. It does not cover special instructional fees for some youth courses, as noted in the course listings. Children (other than teens) in on-campus programs reside adjacent to parents in Court/Kay Hall or with parents at the Hilton Homewood Suites.
