Getting around campus

Cornell's campus is beautiful and large. Please note that you'll be living and eating on North Campus, which is a 20-minute walk from central campus where most of the classes are held, so you may wish to familiarize yourself with the bus system and/or bring a bike to get to classes and meals more quickly.

TCAT buses

TCAT's on-campus bus service connects all parts of the campus and is available from 4:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. weekdays. Evening bus service is available every night of the week from 6:00 p.m. to 2:30 a.m.

Bring a bicycle

If you have a bike and want to get across campus more quickly, we encourage you to bring your bike with you, along with a strong lock and a helmet.

You are required to register your bike when you get to campus. The form requires the bike's serial number, make, model, colors, and style.

We also encourage you to include your name, phone number, and e-mail address in case we need to contact you about it.

Cornell's system of bike lanes, shared paths, and dismount zones must be observed at all times. You should familiarize yourself with this system. All cyclists also must follow state traffic laws.

Bikes can be parked at any bicycle rack or in an approved bicycle storage area in a residence hall with permission from your head resident.

You can buy a bike in Ithaca from locations including:

  • Bike Rack, 607.272.1010
  • Cayuga Ski and Cyclery, 607.277.6821

You can rent a bike by the day in Ithaca from:

Unfortunately, Uber and Lyft are not options

Neither Uber nor Lyft allows individuals under the age of 18 to ride without an accompanying adult. Consequently, Summer College students may not use these services.
