Battle for Bed-Stuy:  The Long War on Poverty in New York City

Located in central Brooklyn, Bedford-Stuyvesant was a shell of its former self by the 1950s. Tree-lined streets, beautiful brownstones, and an air of gentility had given way to crowded dilapidated dwellings or government constructed housing projects.
