Cornell offers pre-med summer program with rotations in NYC
School of Continuing Education and Summer Sessions, December 4, 2017
Students contemplating a career in medicine are invited to apply now for Practicing Medicine: Health Care Culture and Careers, an experiential eight-week summer program offered by Cornell University in New York City from June 4 to July 27, 2018.
Featuring clinical rotations, seminars with faculty from Weill Cornell Medicine, and a three-credit course taught by program director Dr. Sam Beck, Practicing Medicine immerses students in medical culture and practice as they shadow health care professionals in hospitals and clinics. Previous rounds have included anesthesiology, burn units, cardiology, dentistry, emergency medicine, surgery, labor and delivery, oncology, pediatrics, transplant medicine, and more.
Students also meet community leaders and go on site visits to learn about the challenges that affect the availability and quality of health care in some urban neighborhoods.
This is not just an exploration of hospital culture, says director Beck, but "a personal journey into becoming a member of a professional society."
The program is open to students 18 years and older. Enrollment is limited and admission is on a rolling basis, so students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible and no later than February 26, 2018. For information and to apply, see sce.cornell.edu/medicine.
