Cornell-UPR Interuniversity Relief Program


Eligibility for the Cornell-UPR Interuniversity Relief Program

Eligible students must be permanent residents of Puerto Rico who have been registered in the fall semester as full-time, matriculated UPR undergraduates or professional master’s degree students in good standing. Transfer students are not eligible.

Students from the following UPR campuses may apply:

  • Aguadilla
  • Arecibo
  • Carolina
  • Ciencias Médicas
  • Humacao*
  • Mayagüez*
  • Utuado
  • *Humacao and Mayagüez students: To be eligible, you must have your professors or registrar certify that you will complete your classes early enough to be able to arrive on the Cornell campus by the start of the program, January 21.

Unfortunately, students from the following UPR campuses will not complete their first semester until several weeks after the start of Cornell’s spring classes. Therefore, regrettably, we cannot accept applications from these UPR campuses:

  • Bayamón
  • Ponce
  • Río Piedras
  • Cayey

UPR research degree graduate students should contact Jason Kahabka (, associate dean for administration at Cornell's Graduate School, regarding eligibility and application materials for the limited spaces available.

If English is not your first language, you must possess sufficient English-language skills to study at Cornell.
