CHEM 5010 Contemporary Chemistry for Teachers
This course is only offered in the Summer Session.
This intensive one-week lecture and laboratory course is designed specifically for high school chemistry teachers to update them on recent advances in chemistry. Lectures are given by various Cornell chemistry faculty on topics such as equilibrium, organic chemistry, redox reactions, electrochemistry, and fuel cells. Corresponding laboratory activities are also presented. Hands-on activities may include observing equilibria change, evaluating bleach solution concentration, testing material corrosion, and building a battery. Activites are tied to the NYS Chemistry Core Curriculum where possible.
Participants must teach at least one period of high school chemistry per day or give workshops for chemistry teachers on an on-going basis. New York State teachers preferred.
