PAM 2110 Views on the News: Perspectives on Public Policy in America
This course is only offered in the Summer Session.
Obesity, immigration, and incarceration are some of the biggest public policy issues of our day. This course examines topics that are at the center of the news and public discourse in the 2016 election cycle. Everyone has an opinion, but what are the facts? What is the history? What can be done? Each topic will be presented, discussed and analyzed by experts in the field. The tools of policy analysis - economics, sociology, psychology, demography and statistics – will be brought to bear on each topic to elucidate the relevant factors affecting citizen well-being. After completing the class each student will have a good understanding of each topic, and how the tools of policy analysis play an important part in designing and evaluating effective public policy.
