Experiential Writing in the Yucatan

January 4–14, 2019


Eligibility: Juniors and seniors who have taken at least one Cornell writing course are eligible. An application is required. For information about applying, please contact Lauren Chambliss at or 607.255.7344.

Applications are due October 1, 2018.

Note: Students must have a valid passport. Non-U.S. or Canadian students must check visa requirements for Mexico.

Students will be notified of acceptance on October 25.


Once accepted into the program, students much complete the course enrollment form and submit it with a check for the nonrefundable deposit of $700 to B20 Day Hall by November 1.


Tuition for this three-credit course is $4,380 ($1,460/credit).

Tuition scholarships for summer and winter session courses are available through the Learning Strategies Center (607.255.6310).

Travel grants of up to $1000 are also available for those with need from the Off Campus Opportunity Fund.

Financial aid (in the form of loans) is available, but this is separate from any aid you might receive during fall and spring semesters. Therefore, you have to apply for aid.

The School of Continuing Education and Summer Sessions offers one $500 scholarship to an eligible student to help offset tuition and program fees. For more information and to apply, please contact

Program fee

A nonrefundable program fee of $700 includes shared room, breakfast, lunch, one group dinner, and two field trips. Dinner is available in town, a short walk away, or students can prepare food in the shared kitchen at the hotel. Students should bring extra money for dinners, groceries, and gifts.
